UK public/private coalition requests mandatory carbon reporting for big business

Earlier this week, the UK-based Aldersgate Group has published an open letter to the UK government requesting mandatory carbon reporting for corporations. Among the signatories writing that it is “essential that the government ensures that all large organisations measure and report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions” are Microsoft, PepsiCo (UK & Ireland), Siemens, and the UK Green Building Council. BC, Ontario, and Quebec proceed with cap-and-trade initiative for major emitters

Despite the US government’s announcement to table a pared-down version of its planned cap-and-trade legislation, BC, Ontario, and Quebec are proceeding with cap-and-trade program under the Western Climate Initiative. The provinces, which represent about half of Canada’s population, along with California and New Mexico, will participate in a program to limit the emissions from large industrial facilities. US Government to ask 600,000 suppliers for their carbon footprints
